From clandestine techno labs tucked between the Adriatic Sea, the Julian Alps and the Pannonian Basin comes a new batch of precision-engineered dancefloor cuts.
Endemit – a label, a festival and a movement – is one of Slovenia's best-kept secrets, sustaining the spirit of underground techno while steadily projecting the local scene beyond its borders. Following the debut release by Endemit head honcho MMali, the second instalment brings together Slovenian artists MMali, Obscur and Rhaegal alongside Argentinian co-conspirator Pulso, turning the label's latest statement into a transatlantic exchange. While each producer operates within a distinct sonic vocabulary, the four-track release is bound by a shared focus on meticulous sound design, weighty low-end pressure and finely calibrated rhythmic tension. Their hypnotic strain of techno works on a subconscious level, dissolving the boundary between physical impact and inner perception as bodies melt beneath the strobe.
Pulso opens with the early-2000s-inflected drive of 'Aerials', where crisp 909 drums, looming pads and a spiralling lead synth unfold with restrained intensity. On 'Winds of the North', Rhaegal constructs a dense atmospheric current that gradually closes in, its force accumulating with every passing bar. MMali's 'Fall of Man' explores a more introspective terrain. His patient deep techno excursion is shaped by cavernous atmospherics, layered synthesis and carefully sculpted spatial depth. Obscur closes the record with 'Undertow', an austere, ice-cold workout that balances tension and release with remarkable control, unfolding across multiple emotional registers before arriving at its inevitable resolution.
